Job Description

A long-standing, family-owned food distribution leader is seeking a hands-on IT Director to oversee all aspects of IT infrastructure, systems, and operations. The company has built a strong reputation for reliability, innovation, and exceptional service to the culinary and hospitality industries. The IT Director will play a pivotal role in bridging tactical execution with strategic technology leadership, partnering closely with the CIO to evolve systems, drive modernization, and enable continued business scalability.

This is a direct-hire, on-site position located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Role You’ll Play

The IT Director will lead the day-to-day management of IT operations, infrastructure, and enterprise systems while helping define the long-term technology roadmap. Reporting directly to the CIO, this individual will oversee a team of eight and serve as the company’s senior-most hands-on technical leader, and be responsible for ensuring uptime, scalability, and secure connectivity across the business.

  • Oversee daily IT operations, infrastructure management, and end-user support for a 200+ employee organization.

  • Manage and mentor an eight-person IT team, providing hands-on technical direction and leadership.

  • Serve as the primary expert for Fortinet switching and Ubiquiti wireless configuration and troubleshooting.

  • Partner with the CIO to define and execute on digital transformation initiatives, including the company’s migration to Microsoft Dynamics 365.

  • Manage vendors, including ISP and SOC, to ensure proactive communication and resolution of network issues.

  • Maintain and evolve infrastructure related to AS/400, WMS, Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus, and Azure environments.

  • Develop and manage IT budgets, including distinguishing between CapEx and OpEx expenditures.

  • Define and enforce IT policies, business continuity, and disaster recovery plans.

  • Lead by example with a hands-on, problem-solving approach, jumping in to configure, troubleshoot, and improve systems when necessary.

Background Profile:

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technology leader who combines strong networking and infrastructure expertise with the business maturity to drive organizational transformation. This individual will have experience managing teams, vendors, and enterprise environments in mid-sized, fast-paced operations, ideally within distribution, logistics, or manufacturing.

  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including at least 3 years in a Director or Senior Manager role.

  • Strong working knowledge of Fortinet switches, Ubiquiti wireless, and general networking configuration.

  • Experience managing or supporting Microsoft Dynamics 365, IBM AS/400, WMS, and e-commerce systems (Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus).

  • Demonstrated experience with Azure environments, including server management and cloud integrations.

  • Proven ability to manage budgets, differentiate between CapEx/OpEx, and align IT spend with business goals.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both executive leadership and technical teams.

  • Leadership experience managing and mentoring multi-level IT staff (specifically with junior-mid level, developing teams).

  • Demonstrated success supporting or leading digital transformation initiatives in a legacy-to-modern environment.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in food distribution, manufacturing, or logistics sectors.

  • Exposure to enterprise security frameworks and SOC management.

  • Certification in Microsoft, Cisco, or Fortinet technologies.

Compensation:
$130,000-$160,000 per year
